CASTAIC – Moving a step closer to adding another school to the crowded district, the Castaic school board signed a letter of intent to purchase a parcel of land in Hasley Canyon.
The decision to move forward on the 11.5-acre parcel, which officials have valued at $3.7 million, comes after many meetings to choose a new campus site.

The district formed a community committee earlier this year to review four possible sites – including the Hasley Canyon location.
A decision to go with the current property, owned and developed by Greystone Homes, was a result of numerous site committee meetings.
The site was deemed to be the best location and price, Gingrich said.
School officials could not estimate the cost of building a new campus, which depends in part on test results from the state, the board president said.
Gingrich added that the district would have to get in line for state funds for the project.
